Chiefs Take First Game of Series Against Cyclones
Submitted By ajlazosky on Wednesday, February 1, 2012
The energy was high in the Komoka arena last night as the Chiefs took on the Chatham-Kent Cyclones in the first game of the playdown series.

It took until late into the first period for the first goal of the game to be scored.  The Chiefs took the first penalty of the game late in the first period and right at the end of the penalty the Cyclones managed to score.  At the end of the first period it was 1-0 Cyclones.

Behind by a goal, the Chiefs came out strong in the second period and sniped one in the net from just inside the blue line only a minute and a half into the period.  Two minutes later, the Cyclones scored on a shot from the point that was deflected into the net.  However, the Chiefs were able to tie up the game on a power play goal before the period was out.  The score at the end of the second period was 2-2.

Early into the third period, the Chiefs got the go-ahead goal with pressure in front of the net.  They followed that by another goal about a minute later scored on a pass from deep in the corner.  About a minute after that, the Chiefs managed to get their second power play goal of the game.  At this point the Cyclones took a time out.  With 9 minutes left in the game, the Chiefs took a penalty.  The Cyclones got dangerously close to scoring, hitting a post, but the Chiefs managed to hold them off even on a penalty kill in the last few minutes of the game.  The Chiefs goalie took a lot of shots from the Cyclones but played a solid game right to the end.  The game ended with a score of 5-2 for the Chiefs.

Back to back games are coming up this weekend, Saturday in Bothwell and back in Komoka on Sunday.
