2011-2012 Major Bantam '97 - Marlies Holiday Classic Champions!
Submitted By Ruth Kilgour, Bantam Manager on Friday, December 30, 2011
The Bantam Chiefs came out on top this week against a tough field at the Marlies Holiday Classic.  After winning all four games in the round robin and beating local rivals, London Junior Knights Gold, the team won the next three games by just one goal.  Perhaps the most exciting was an overtime win against Belle Tire, after relinquishing a two-goal lead, to advance to the finals. Facing the speedy Oakville Rangers in the championship game, the Chiefs were down 2-0 after the first.  Refreshed after the first period flood, the team battled back to a 3-3 tie in the third.  With just shy of five minutes remaining in regulation time, the team got the seemingly elusive game winner.  It was a great team effort all weekend from the bench staff, goalies, defence and forwards.  Special kudos go out to Travis Konecny who very deservedly won the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.  Go Chiefs!
